B. Approval of September 18, 2024 Minutes; Molly moves, Lisa Strandberg second. Motion carries.
C. Treasurer’s Report--Deb Langacker: No deposits. Reimbursed Jonathan for website $220.80. 16 members attended NAMI training for $320. Refreshments for September for $58.69. Balance of $9354.13
D. Coordinated Entry Update--Liz Croley: attached. 472 units needed to clear the list.
E. People of Progression Grants--Kristen Gondek Kelly: Founded in 2020 to have black and African Americans to get their voices heard. Have embarked on some housing projects; generational wealth building, statewide youth homelessness systems improvement and culture and community coalition. Will help support people of color in need of housing and housing supports. Will be looking for referrals for 3 youth to be on the statewide youth homelessness team. F. Spotlight – Appleton Police, Chris Biese: APD and working with the unhoused. Need to work with a variety of agencies as community boundaries are confusing. At this time there are 6 officers on the street in the City, 11 is the peak. 74,511 people in the City. Appleton Mayor said that the Supreme Court ruling will not change the way Appleton treats people who are unhoused. No interest in criminalizing homelessness, behaviors have to be addressed. G. Faith Summit Update--Jo Muehl: First faith based housing summit held on Oct. 12. Touched on 5 “levers” and there were calls to action from each speaker. Team will be meeting in early November to discuss and agree on a path forward. 30 faith communities represented. Please read the info that was sent with the agenda.
H. Committee Updates
a. Affordable Housing--Susan Garcia Franz: Presented three times in Sept. and October and looking for more places to present.
b. DEI--Tracie La Rue Moen: Met in October and had World Relief come in to talk about refugee resettlement. Also talked about how to bring landlords to the table.
c. Website Task Force--Jonathon Pylypiv: website is up at foxcitieshousing.org. Provide feedback if you see any typos, etc. If you’d like something on the website, email fchc.updates@gmail.com
d. Increase Non-Employment Cash income--Jennie Moore: Met and started a tracking spreadsheet.
e. Prevent or Reverse the Criminalization of Homelessness--Lisa Strandberg: Becky Heldt set up an education session with Winnebago county elected officials to discuss the issue; great turnout. Vote on banning camping will probably come up in November. If you live or work in Winnebago County, please contact your co. supervisor.
I. Other Business; AASD has 326 students qualified to receive homeless support. Anyone working with families who may qualify, contact your school district homeless support staffperson. To find the homeless liasion for any school districts: https://dpi.wi.gov/homeless/liaisons
Positive movement toward forming a Housing Alliance and hiring a consultant. Comprehensive plan for City of Appleton is being written. Opportunity for public involvement on Nov. 19th. Housing is topic number 1. Watch for more info.
